However, when Alison mentioned our little field trip to a local … Continue reading→ © 2014 Sarabeth Jones. All rights reserved. Go: a commission – the dramaticthe dramatic

← © 2015 Sarabeth Jones. All rights reserved. Go: a commission 1 Oct '15 This last weekend at church we were looking at Ephesians 2:1-10, which is 9 verses painting a picture of extravagant grace, and then that last one that describes what we are to be, what we already are, because of that grace. For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. Not to earn that grace, mind you, but in response. Because so much has been freely given. Because we are so completely loved. So, after one of our dear pastors made it clear to us…

    Batter my heartthe dramatic

← → © 2015 Sarabeth Jones. All rights reserved. Batter my heart 10 Aug '15 The alarm on my phone goes off and I fumble to reach it, dropping it on the floor. Rolling over and running my fingers across the carpet I reach the smooth black case, pull it under the covers with me and tap the snooze. A 9-minute nap. Today I’ve set it extra early in the hope that I will get out of bed and exercise, but no one is waiting for me at the gym and the air from the fan brushes my cheek gently and I burrow back in, again and again. Finally after tapping…

Craigievar Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland – the dramaticthe dramatic

← → © 2015 Sarabeth Jones. All rights reserved. Craigievar Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland 10 Mar '15 A little more adventure in Scotland…I can’t help it, y’all. I just love reliving it through these pictures! So, fish and chips was Saturday, and then Sunday was all church and Taido coming back to Aberdeen from his Kenya trip. He decided to play hooky on Monday and accompany Alison, Elizabeth and I to a nearby castle or two. The first one we went to was Craigievar Castle, a tall pink square building – not at all how I expected a castle to be, but lovely nonetheless. It’s claim to fame is twofold: having one of…

That I would see – the dramaticthe dramatic

← → © 2015 Sarabeth Jones. All rights reserved. That I would see 9 Mar ’15 A few Sundays ago at church, I was asked to welcome folks and introduce the topic for the day, which was the Holy Spirit. As with many things that we discuss, this particular subject is full of mystery, which also means it can be ripe for misunderstanding, divisiveness, and general grumping around. These types of differences are only amplified when you have a church that is both interdenominational and racially diverse. So I wanted to do my best to get us all started off together, and I find what’s usually best is to tell a…

Sunday Fun Day – the dramaticthe dramatic

← → © 2015 Sarabeth Jones. All rights reserved. Sunday Fun Day 9 Feb ’15 Bryan texted me at church yesterday to let me know everything was okay, I texted back: I wish I could have seen the guy’s face when he opened the door. Bryan texted me back, just 3 words. Smoke weed everyday. Sunday mornings at my house are a little nuts, mostly because they are the one morning a week I have to be up and out early, while simultaneously not being in gym clothes. Hair, makeup, cute outfit, all by 8:00 am. I know. Life is hard. This Sunday was actually humming along pretty well. I and the two teenagers…

Run your fingers along the edges – the dramaticthe dramatic

← → © 2015 Sarabeth Jones. All rights reserved. Run your fingers along the edges 30 Jan '15 It distressed me that we were standing in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and he couldn’t see it. We were hiking amid gigantic rocks that twist and spiral to the sky. They rise like impossible pillars – swirled like clay from a giant’s hand, some ancient creature who stopped and twirled himself a playground. Grey and black and cream and rough with seashells, even though there is no sea here. Still, there must have been, here are the shells passing by my shoulder I walk, here I can run my fingers along them encrusted. You can…
