Craigievar Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland
A little more adventure in Scotland…I can’t help it, y’all. I just love reliving it through these pictures!
So, fish and chips was Saturday, and then Sunday was all church and Taido coming back to Aberdeen from his Kenya trip. He decided to play hooky on Monday and accompany Alison, Elizabeth and I to a nearby castle or two.
The first one we went to was Craigievar Castle, a tall pink square building – not at all how I expected a castle to be, but lovely nonetheless. It’s claim to fame is twofold: having one of the “three finest ceilings in Scotland” and being one of the castles that inspired Disney’s Cinderella castle.
We had time to wander the grounds and hike a short trail before we circled back for a guided tour – which ended on the roof of the castle. The whole thing felt like a bit of a fairy tale: wandering under tall trees next to old stone walls, clearings with wispy wildflowers, meadows full of sheep under sunny Scottish skies.
In June of 2014, my daughter Elizabeth and I went on an absolutely incredible trip together visiting the Chinos in Aberdeen, Scotland, staying in Paris, France for a couple of days, and doing mission work in Migori, Kenya. I took a bazillion pictures and am writing about it all and you can read more posts from the trip here, if you’d like.
